Install RSAT on Windows 10

I need to install RSAT (Remote Server Administration Tools ) on Windows 10 version 20H2 but any try I did, It fails.

Install RSAT as it should work (but don’t)

I’ve tried with standard procedure (Settings -> App -> Manage optional features -> Add Features -> Select RSAT and then install) But IT FAILS.

I’ve tried with Power Shell Command… but it failed again:

PS C:\> Get-WindowsCapability -Name RSAT* -Online | Add-WindowsCapability -Online
Add-windowscapability add-windowscapability failed. error code = 0x800f0954
In riga:1 car:45
+ ... WindowsCapability -Name RSAT* -Online | Add-WindowsCapability -Online
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (:) [Add-WindowsCapability], COMException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.Dism.Commands.AddWindowsCapabilityCommand

(here you can find a good article about tradictional installation)

Solution Installing RSAT from PowerShell

After some reading and googling I found out that tipica installation or Power Shell command installations work only for old version of Windows 10. If you have Window 10 2004 or 20H2 you have to follow this procedure.

First of all open PowerShell (better if “as administrator”), and Run the following commands:

PS > Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU" -Name "UseWUServer" -Value 0
PS > restart-service "windows update"
PS > Get-WindowsCapability -Name RSAT* -Online | Add-WindowsCapability -Online

Path :
Online : True
RestartNeeded : False

PS > Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU" -Name "UseWUServer" -Value 1
PS > restart-service "windows update"

And it is done!

Basically you need to disable Windows Update and re-enable again (it is not enoght to stop windows update services, don’t stop it)

Here i found the solution

Hope it helps.
